On the Monday when this is posted, it will be the first long weekend of the summer here in Canada. It’s commonly referred to by the imaginative name of The May Long Weekend. It supposedly celebrates May the 24th but rarely falls on or even near that day. So there’s confusion and discussion ahead of time as to which Monday will be off. It will in fact, be today.
It’s guaranteed that the weather will be wildly unpredictable, but we’re usually optimistic, and plan outdoor activities anyways. Also there will be random fireworks every evening of the weekend. Terrifying for the dog.
Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the gardening season, here in southern Ontario at least. So I’ll be hitting up the garden centres along with everyone else, and making plans for this summer’s garden.
The first thing I’m planning is a container garden of herbs. It will depend on what I can find when I shop. But I’ll be looking for basil, rosemary, dill, chives, parsley, mint and thyme.
In a previous blogging life I had a popular post about my container garden with stencilled containers. I still have and love those containers. And so I have another plant + stencilling project planned for this long weekend. If it works out well I’ll share it with you someday …
However you’re spending this Monday, summer long weekend or not, I hope it’s a lovely one.
xx
